You get one of these. This is the BMW i8, and I think the I is intentional. It's a very high tech device. It's a hybrid electric sports car. It's worth about a hundred thirty six thousand dollars and it's pretty amazing. We test a lot of cars and very few get a reaction like this. People taking photographs on the street, asking us questions. It's very fast. Pretty interesting and amazing vehicle, now does the world need a hybrid electric sports car like this? Probably not but what the heck? Look at this thing. It looks like it's gonna fly away. And it was designed to be a dazzling sort of show car and certainly BMW has done that. The challenge is to combine them in a way that you can drive all that power to the wheels. BMW solved this really nicely. So there are two engines in this thing. The electric one is in the front. Now we'd like to show it to you. But we've been asked not to pull the hood off this thing. Because it's so unusual that it doesn't come off the way a normal hood would. In the back, we've got the conventional engine which, if you can see, is pretty small because it has a pretty small engine in it. Three cylinder engine that's used in the mini. Now, to get power out of this thing, they turbo- charge it so you get 228 horses. Same time, the trunk is back here. It's about big enough for your charger. Plugs into the front. Then into a conventional power outlet. As for storing luggage, forget it. [ MUSIC ] Now, it takes a little doing to get into this thing because of this carbon tub that it's built on. But once you get inside, it's nothing but gorgeous. Beautiful leather, very comfortable seat, power seat, and all the appointments that you'd expect out of a luxury car. The I8 has four driving modes. We're in the all electric mode right now, which sort of puts you in submarine mode here. It's silent. We kinda drift along the road. People kind of gawk at you because this car is so beautiful. But it's absolutely quiet in here. Perfect for playing music if you'd like. [ MUSIC ] But the real fun is when we push it to sport mode and the conventional engine kicks in. You get take- off. And we just got up to about 70 miles an hour in a couple of seconds without really trying. It's just a lot of fun. There are sensors all around the car that tell you what's close to you, what's dangerous and what isn't. This is the setting for the safety systems that more or less allow you to set up your own personal bubble. What you want it to detect. The I 8 sits on a carbon fiber tub which makes it very light, you can see the pattern here. It also makes it a little bit difficult to get into the front seat. And as for the back seat, well, forget about it. You can get your groceries back there. The i8 is aerodynamic in many ways and here's a cool feature right here.
