Doug Jung, the co-creator of the television series _Dark Blue_, and Simon Pegg, who plays Scotty in the _Star Trek_ franchise, will co-write the film, [according to The Hollywood Reporter](http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/simon-pegg-dark-blue-creator-765870 "undefined"). Justin Lin will direct. The new team needed to come on board after Roberto Orci, who was writing and supposed to direct the film, left the project. This film will be the third in the _Star Trek_ movie franchise, following the successes of 2009’s _Star Trek_ and 2013’s _Star Trek Into Darkness_.
