Go home, everybody — the body party has been canceled. On Ciara’s first single from her upcoming album, Jackie — named after her mother — the singer dishes about taking her goodies elsewhere after a failed relationship. Fans know it’s no normal human breakup, either, as its lyrics are strikingly specific about life in the public eye: “You actin’ like you upgraded me / I upgraded you / You and me Fashion Week in Paris / I put you on to that new.” So specific, in fact, one might think she’s speaking directly to Future, with whom she called off her engagement last year (following the birth of her son).
Let’s hope the Jackie album campaign has more luck than her personal life — it took three scrapped singles before Ciara was able to launch her self-titled album in 2013, and this late ’90s/early 2000s-inspired R&B jam deserves better.
