The video for Sia’s latest single, “Elastic Hearts,” features actor Shia LaBeouf, 28, and “Chandelier” dancer Maddie Ziegler, 12, intensely dancing it out in a cage while wearing very little—both factors that contributed to some viewers sensing some sexual overtones in the video.
Sia apologized for those overtones on Twitter Thursday, where she wrote that she anticipated “some ‘pedophelia!!!’ Cries for this video” but that the two dancers, despite their obvious age difference, “are two of the only actors [she] felt could play these two warring ‘sia’ self states.”
“I apologize to those who felt triggered by [the video],” she wrote. “My intention was to create some emotional content, not to upset anybody.”
