Mulaney has done two major comedy specials: "The Top Part" (2009) and "New In Town" (2012 —pictured above). Both earned critical acclaim and established him as a comic's comic.

Mulaney's best-known bit isn't even one that he performs himself. He and Bill Hader co-created Saturday Night Live's "Stefon" character. Mulaney was a writer on the show for six seasons.

After NBC declined to pick up his pilot in 2013, Mulaney brought it over to Fox, where it has been billed as one of the fall's top new comedies. The story is loosely based on the comedian's own life.
