Meryl Streep will play famous opera singer Maria Callas for an HBO film based on the Terrence McNally play Master Class, HBO confirmed Thursday.
Mike Nichols, who frequently works with Streep, will direct the TV movie. He previously worked with the actress on Silkwood, Angels in America and Heartburn.
Master Class debuted on Broadway in 1995.
