The Navy said Friday evening that the man suspected of stabbing a service member earlier in the day, spawning a lockdown at a nearby naval hospital in Virginia, is in custody.
Petty Officer 3rd Class Wilbur Harwell was arrested by law enforcement in nearby Virginia Beach, Capt. Michael “Jake” Johansson, commanding officer of Naval Support Activity Hampton Roads, told the Associated Press. The lockdown at the Portsmouth Naval Medical Center was lifted after the arrest.
The victim is in critical condition, the AP reports.
The Portsmouth Naval Medical Center in southeastern Virginia is the Navy’s oldest continuously operating hospital and has around 4,300 employees, according to its website.
