### FAQ

#### Is a PMP certification worth it?

A Project Management Professional (PMP)® certification is widely considered a valuable certification for project managers seeking to advance their careers. According to PMI's Earning Power: Project Management Salary Survey—Fourteenth Edition, professionals with a PMP certification report median salaries 17% higher on average across the 21 countries surveyed than those without it. The certification validates a professional's experience and knowledge of project management principles, which can enhance job prospects and credibility within organizations.

#### What are the best certifications for project managers?

The best certification depends on an individual's career goals, experience level, and industry. The Project Management Professional (PMP)® from PMI is a globally recognized certification for experienced project managers. For those newer to the field, PMI's Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)® is a common starting point. Other notable certifications include those focused on agile methodologies, such as the PMI Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP)®, and program management certifications like the Program Management Professional (PgMP)®. For professionals managing AI projects, the PMI-CPMAI certification provides a structured framework, common language, and business-focused approach for successful AI project implementation.

#### How does PMI support career growth for professionals?

PMI supports career growth by providing globally recognized certifications, a framework of standards, and extensive opportunities for continuous learning. Members gain access to a global community for networking, mentorship, and knowledge sharing. The organization also produces research and thought leadership on emerging trends, helping professionals stay current with skills in areas like AI, agile practices, and strategic business management. These resources are designed to help professionals at all levels enhance their skills and advance their careers.

#### What is the PMBOK® Guide?

The PMBOK® Guide, or A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge, is PMI’s foundational guide to generally accepted project management knowledge and practice. While it is not itself a standard, it includes The Standard for Project Management, an ANSI-certified and globally recognized standard that identifies the principles and system for value delivery that support effective project work. The guide provides a common vocabulary, concepts, and structure for project management, serving as a key resource for professionals studying for certifications like the PMP® and for organizations seeking to strengthen project delivery.

#### How is AI changing project management?

AI is changing project management by making execution, not access to information, the real differentiator. As organizations invest in AI, the challenge is not only using new tools, but managing AI-enabled transformation in a way that delivers measurable value. Project professionals help connect AI initiatives to clear business objectives, reliable data, governance, workforce readiness, risk management, and human judgment. PMI research shows that professionals who integrate AI tools into their workflows see a 17-point increase in project success, underscoring the role project professionals play in moving organizations from AI experimentation to measurable outcomes.

#### What are the most important skills for a project manager?

Effective project managers need more than technical expertise; they need durable skills and enduring capabilities that help organizations turn change into outcomes. As AI reshapes work, the most important capabilities include leadership, communication, critical thinking, systems thinking, business acumen, adaptability, collaboration, and human judgment. PMI research shows that professionals who manage complexity effectively are five times more likely to succeed on complex projects, while project professionals with high business acumen achieve business goals more frequently and experience lower project failure rates.

#### How can I get involved with the PMI community?

Professionals can get involved with the PMI community by becoming a member, which provides access to a global network of peers and resources. Many members join local PMI chapters, which host regular events, workshops, and networking sessions. Online, PMI's projectmanagement.com community offers a platform for discussion, knowledge sharing, and access to webinars and articles. Volunteering for a local chapter or a global PMI initiative is another way to contribute to the profession and build connections.

#### What is the difference between PMP and CAPM?

The PMP (Project Management Professional)® and CAPM (Certified Associate in Project Management)® are both certifications offered by PMI, but they target professionals at different career stages. The CAPM is an entry-level certification designed for individuals with little or no project experience, validating their understanding of fundamental project management knowledge and terminology. The PMP is for experienced project managers and requires a combination of formal education and years of documented project leadership experience, making it a more advanced and globally recognized certification.

#### How does PMI support social impact?
PMI supports social impact by helping individuals, nonprofits, NGOs, and communities use project management to turn purpose into measurable outcomes. Through the PMI Educational Foundation, PMI expands access to project management education for youth worldwide, including underserved and underrepresented populations. Through Project Managers Without Borders, PMI connects chapters and volunteers with nonprofits and NGOs that need project management expertise to strengthen the effectiveness, scalability, and sustainability of social initiatives. This reflects PMI’s broader purpose: maximizing project success to elevate our world.

Long drives can tax anyone’s patience. So before you [hit the road for a vacation](http://www.techlicious.com/tip/the-best-road-trip-apps/) this year, stock up on entertainment options for your fellow passengers.

Your family’s favorite shows, movies and music can go a long way toward staving off boredom and bickering, making in-car entertainment options a must-have for any long road trip. Here are our favorite car entertainment accessories to help you get set up.

## Headrest-mounted entertainment

Even if your car doesn’t have a built-in entertainment system, you can still add high-end video entertainment to your vehicle. The easiest (and cheapest) option is to use your existing iPad or [Android tablet](http://www.techlicious.com/review/the-best-large-android-tablet-november-2013/) and a tablet mount that attaches a tablet to the back of a front-seat headrest. This makes for easy hands-free watching, especially if kids are sharing the screen.

Our favorite is the [Arkon Universal Tablet Headrest Mount](http://www.amazon.com/dp/B009O1GUC8/?tag=techlicious-20), which is easily adjustable to fit different cars and different tablets. The mount will fit tablets between [7 inches](http://www.techlicious.com/review/best-small-tablet-october-2013/) and [10 inches](http://www.techlicious.com/review/the-best-large-android-tablet-november-2013/), including the iPad, iPad Air, iPad Mini, Kindle Fire HDX, Samsung Galaxy Tab and many others. If you don’t take frequent road trips, the price is definitely right for this mount, which will only set you back about $35.

The downside to using your tablet in the car is that it’s still a tablet; the touchscreen interface can be awkward to reach on the road, especially for smaller kids. If you want a more TV-like experience (or just more entertainment options), we recommend swapping out your car’s headrests for ones with built-in monitors, like these [Pyle Headrests with Built-In LCD Monitors](http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0015H7924/?tag=techlicious-20).

This pair of monitors costs $117 and gives you all the entertainment you need, including two screens that can play video from different sources, though it’s up to you to provide the source. You can use any video player with a composite output—a DVD player, older iOS devices with 30-pin connectors (with a Composite AV Cable for $17.99 on [Amazon](http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004SBBDD0/?tag=techlicious-20)) or even an older video game console—to keep multiple kids entertained at the same time. And for ease of use, each monitor has its own remote. For those with news video components with HDMI outputs, try the 10.3-inch Power Acoustik PHDM-103 ($191.77 per headrest on [Amazon](http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00B7C09B0/?tag=techlicious-20)).

## Endless entertainment streaming

There’s no easy or cheap way to stream Netflix on long road trips; even with access to 4G LTE networks, you’re likely to get choppy video. For movies and tv shows, you’ll need to pack your own videos.

Our favorite option for digital video is the [Seagate Wireless Plus](http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AQRUW4Q/?tag=techlicious-20) system, a portable hard drive with 500GB to 2TB of storage that can be used to stream music, movies and TV shows to tablets, smartphones and laptops.

The drive is capable of streaming to three different devices at a time via built-in WiFi with a battery that lasts up to 10 hours, making it an ideal companion for long road trips. Prices start at $149 for the 500GB version and go up to $199 for the 2TB version, an excellent investment for regular road-trippers.

## Easy listening with headphones for everyone

If you have a car full of people all trying to watch or listen to different things at the same time, expect family harmony to fade fast.

Solve this problem in advance by making sure everyone has their own headphones and headphone splitters so the entire car can share or listen alone whenever they like.

Let two people listen to music, movies or television on one tablet with a simple headphone jack splitter like the [iLuv Splitter Adapter](http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001TKTHFY/?tag=techlicious-20) for $9\. This adapter plugs into any standard 3.5mm audio jack and lets you connect and independently control the volume for two sets of headphones. The kids can watch their favorite cartoons, and you can drive on in blissful peace and quiet. Or if your child has a friend along and they want to be able to chat with other friends, there’s the [giik PartyTalk headset splitter](http://www.giiktechnologies.com/product%5Fp/gkspltr.htm) with dual mic and volume controls ($25).

For headphones for the kids, the [Kidz Gear Volume Limit Headphones](http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AXE96L2/?tag=techlicious-20) are a great choice, offering volume control that prevents the sound from getting too loud for young ears. They’re comfortable for long wear and come in a range of bright colors that are sure to please — and at $22, they won’t break the bank. And if you have a built-in system that supports wireless IR headphones, like the Pyle headrests, the [Kidz Gear Wireless Car Headphones for Kids](http://www.amazon.com/dp/B003053L3U/?tag=techlicious-20) are a great option at $20.

Adults might want higher-end sound and noise cancellation capable of blocking out even the worst road trip annoyances.

![](https://static.time.com/v3/assets/bltea6093859af6183b/blte0c526e886cb599b/6986961ee8524b845f6034d1/monster-inspiration-active-noise-canceling-headpohones-300px.jpg?branch=production&width=640&quality=75&auto=webp)

Monster

Our favorite are the [Monster Inspiration Active Noise Canceling Over-Ear Headphones](http://www.amazon.com/dp/B005LAIEN4/?tag=techlicious-20), which use active noise blocking to make your trip as peaceful as possible. They’re an investment at $245, but serious audiophiles (especially those who travel a lot) will definitely appreciate them.

If you don’t like the over-ear style of the Monster headphones or don’t like their high price tag, we’re also fans of the [Audio Technica QuietPoint Active Noise-Cancelling In-Ear Headphones](http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004K09H32/?tag=techlicious-20), which offer solid noise cancellation for only $39.

![](https://static.time.com/v3/assets/bltea6093859af6183b/blt8e8bd5550c1fed52/6986961f06f2c1886332f503/karma-wifi-hotspot-350px.jpg?branch=production&width=750&quality=75&auto=webp)

Karma

## Stay connected with Wi-Fi on the go

Wi-Fi can be hard to come by when you’re on the road. Although most of us can turn our smartphones into wireless hotspots, that can gobble up your data plan in no time. Instead, try the $99 [Karma Wi-Fi Hotspot](http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00B7LTTV2/?tag=techlicious-20). There’s no contract or monthly fees with the Karma; you pay for data as you need it, at $14 per GB.

We wouldn’t recommend using it to stream Netflix, but it’s a great way to check email or keep up with your social networks on the go. Just make sure your travel area is [within Karma’s coverage area](https://yourkarma.com/how-it-works) before you buy.
