In a world of star-studded selfies, can a Texas man break Ellen Degeneres’ Oscars Selfie Retweet record?

On Tuesday, Terry Shipman, a small-business owner from Beaumont, Texas, posted a selfie to Twitter with his two dogs, adding, “Let’s see if we can beat the Oscar re-tweets!”

But while Ellen has garnered more than 3 million retweets, Shipman’s current tally is just over 138,000. It’s a tough world for underdogs on Twitter these days.
