TAKING CARE OF BUSINESS: Hong Kong tourism officials are cheered by recent surveys showing the City of Life is rebounding as a business travel destination. A recent poll conducted by Business Traveller Asia-Pacific magazine named Hong Kong as the "best city in the world for doing business," while the International Congress and Convention Association has found that Hong Kong is the fifth most popular venue for business conferences. That's good news for the city's travel industry, as business travelers tend to stay longer than tourists (5.5 nights vs. 3.4) and spend more (about $2,500 vs. $825). After a rocky takeoff, Hong Kong International Airport is showing approval ratings of 93% on visitor surveys. Travel & Leisure magazine's September issue placed the city's Peninsula and Regent hotels among the world's top 15. Hong Kong itself didn't make T&L's top-25-cities list this year, but with prices dropping and courtesy rising as the recession deepens, prospects are favorable.
