Pomona College

Claremont, CAwww.pomona.edu
Pomona College is one of only a handful of schools that promise to meet the full demonstrated need of admitted students, allowing about 70% of them to graduate without student debt. The school also boasts an exceptional graduation rate: 97% of students leave with a degree within six years. A typical student at the elite liberal arts college scores in the 700s on both parts of the SAT. With 1,600 undergraduates, Pomona is comparatively small, so students can expect to develop close relationships with their professors, both in and out of class. The small size doesn't mean students sacrifice options, though; they can take any class offered by the other members of the Claremont Colleges consortium -- Claremont-McKenna, Harvey Mudd, Pitzer, and Scripps. The schools also combine to offer many Division III sports and extracurricular activities. Pomona's profile attests to its commitment to diversity: More than half of incoming freshman are students of color, and 19% of the incoming class are the first in their families to go to college. The college offers a wide array of extracurricular activities and organizations. One popular club: On the Loose, or OTL, an outdoor activities club for all five of the Claremont schools. It coordinates more than 50 trips throughout California and the Southwest every year, where students hike, surf, rock-climb and more.
