Merrimack College

North Andover, MAwww.merrimack.edu
Merrimack College, in northern Massachusetts, was established in 1947 to help educate recently returned veterans of World War II. Today it has about 4,000 students, some 3,500 of them undergraduates. Merrimack offers more than 90 academic programs in its four schools: the School of Liberal Arts, School of Science & Engineering, School of Education, and Girard School of Business and International Commerce. In keeping with its Catholic, Augustinian tradition, the college puts an emphasis on social justice, scholarship, and service. Students have many opportunities to do community service, including alternative spring and winter breaks that take them to different parts of the country, where they help build homes or perform other needed work. About three-quarters of students reside on campus, which is less than half an hour from Boston. Students participate in about 25 varsity sports and 60 clubs, with dozens of academically oriented groups and just a handful of Greek organizations.
