Indiana Wesleyan University-Marion

Marion, INwww.indwes.edu
Indiana Wesleyan University, an evangelical Christian university, is Indiana's largest private university. The school is known for its innovative adult education programs; of its 15,000 students, only about 3,000 attend the university's main campus in Marion, about 75 miles northeast of Indianapolis. The remainder participate in IWU's online degree programs or attend classes at 17 regional education centers in Indiana, Kentucky, and Ohio. The school offers around 80 majors, ranging from certificate programs through PhDs. Particular standouts include its school of nursing, which includes a graduate division; Wesley Seminary, which offers master's degrees in ministerial studies; and the John Wesley Honors College, focusing on Christian liberal education for undergrads. On-campus students live in same-sex dorms and apartments, including several residence areas that are reserved for freshmen only. Because IWU is an evangelical school, student behavior policies are fairly strict, and chapel attendance is required for all resident students. The renowned University Chorale, an 80-voice ensemble that performs a variety of hymns and songs, has toured throughout the United States and Europe. The small city of Marion, full of local shops and restaurants, is the birthplace of actor James Dean and "Garfield" cartoonist Jim Davis.
