Indiana University-Bloomington

Bloomington, INwww.iub.edu
Indiana University-Bloomington is the flagship campus of a large state school, based in a small, vibrant college town. Students come from all over the U.S. and more than 130 countries for a solid, well-priced education at one of the country's top-ranked state schools. Its beautiful campus includes several buildings that are on the National Register of Historic Places. The university offers a staggering 200 majors spread over 16 degree-granting colleges and schools. IU is also a media darling. It has as a multimillion-dollar athletic endowment for its 22 varsity sports teams, and Greek life comes standard. Still, it offers alternatives to the standard beer-soaked weekend, including a bowling alley in the Student Union. The student body, diverse for the Midwest, is large enough to make stereotyping difficult. Though the sheer size of the institution can seem intimidating, it is also IU's greatest asset -- where else, after all, can you major in Hungarian and enjoy the largest harp department in the world? The university's graduation rate is 69%, which is slightly higher than colleges with similar student populations. It's salary benefits for students are less stellar: A median income of $50,300 for recent graduates is slightly below what's expected from a school like IU.
