CUNY Lehman College

This college in the Bronx has a national reputation for fostering social mobility. Even better, students say their professors truly care about the courses -- and the people -- they're teaching. Lehman has about 10,000 undergraduates, most of them female, pursuing about 50 majors. The most popular degrees are health- and business-related. Used as a training station for women serving in World War II, the campus is historic and features sprawling grassy lawns that make you feel far from the city. The student body is fairly diverse, with significant Hispanic and black populations. Lehman values performance; its arts center has a schedule packed with dance shows, and the school recently debuted a new music, multimedia, theater and dance department. Seeking other ways to keep busy? You have no shortage of options. Check out a stir fry workshop, attend a Bible study, or join the animation club. The school has even had yoga on the Quad and Cosplay Cafe events for costume lovers.
