Here's How Much Tom Price Spent on Private Jets

Sep 29, 2017

Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price resigned from his post on Friday, amid criticism over his use of private planes to travel on government business.

Price, the latest in a string of White House officials to leave President Donald Trump's administration, racked up more than $1 million on private planes to travel overseas and in the U.S.

Politico reports that Price's travels to Africa, Europe and Asia earlier on military jets this year cost taxpayers more than $500,000 and brought the total cost to over $1 million, when accounting for both his trips abroad and within the U.S.

Price's excessively priced travels came to light following a report from Politico last week, which pointed out about two dozen charter flights, including one from Washington D.C. to Philadelphia for $25,000. By comparison, commercial flights for the same route on United Airlines cost between $447 and $725 at the time.

Price apologized and offered to cover some of the costs to taxpayers the day before he resigned.
