For four years Fralin has taught money skills for Citizen Schools, a nonprofit that expands the learning day for low-income middle-school students. Starting at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesdays, he spends up to two hours with about 20 children, covering subjects like the benefits of investing at age 20 instead of 50, making thoughtful money choices, and proper job-interview behavior. Fralin urges the kids to share these lessons with their parents, he says, “because they never had this opportunity.”

Says Fralin:

Parents come to us and say, ‘I cannot believe my child is discussing financial concepts that even I don’t understand.’”
