The Daily Show's Larry Wilmore will be filling Stephen Colbert's Comedy Central slot as host of the The Minority Report. Wilmore's show, slated to begin in 2015, will provide a comedic take on news that is "missing in the current late night landscape"

Call it the great late night television shuffle of 2014.

In anticipation of Stephen Colbert’s move to CBS, Comedy Central announced Friday that The Daily Show correspondent Larry Wilmore will fill the highly-coveted post-Jon Stewart slot as host of The Minority Report with Larry Wilmore.

Wilmore, 52, is currently “Senior Black Correspondent” on “The Best F*&#ing News Team Ever!.” Before joining Stewart’s cast in 2006, Wilmore wrote for In Living Color, The Fresh Prince of Bel Air and The Jamie Foxx Show, among others. He follows stars Stephen Colbert, John Oliver and Steve Carell in rising from the ranks of Jon Stewart’s long-running and highly popular spoof news show.

Wilmore’s Minority Report, slated to begin in January 2015, will provide viewers with a comedic take on the news with “a perspective largely missing in the current late night landscape,” Comedy Central said.

Stewart will be executive producer of the show alongside Wilmore.

“I’m beyond excited to have this chance to continue my relationships with Comedy Central and the brilliant Jon Stewart,” Wilmore said in a statement. “I love the city of New York and promise to only wear my Laker t-shirts when I’m layering.”

Wilmore is the latest in a myriad of big names that have recently announced plans to trade places: John Oliver has left Stewart’s show to start Last Week Tonight, Jimmy Fallon left Late Night for The Tonight Show, Seth Meyers has moved to Late Night, and Colbert will be filling David Letterman’s shoes on The Late Show starting next year.
