Another track from Xscape, Michael Jackson’s upcoming posthumous album, has been released.
Called “Chicago,” though originally titled “She Was Lovin’ Me,” the track was first recorded in 1999 and was slated for Jackson’s 2001 Invincible album, but didn’t make the final cut. The song has since been updated by producer Timbaland, and will be one of eight tracks on the upcoming album, out May 16. The original recording will be available on a deluxe edition of the album.
Album liner notes for the track describe how “Jackson sings in his lower register in the verses over an ominous beat, slowly painting a story of an illicit affair, before unleashing a torrent of pain and regret in the chorus.”
The track, via music blog Nah Right, can be streamed here in all its MJ-glory:
After Jackson’s death in 2009, Sony inked a deal with his estate to continue to release the pop star’s music, drawing on a vast archive of recordings he’d completed, but never made available. Since his death, both 2009’s This Is It and 2010’s Michael, have been released, both featuring previously unreleased recordings. According to CNN, the latest album draws on recordings Jackson worked on between 1983 and 1999.
