Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker said on Tuesday that his administration would appeal a federal-court ruling striking down the state’s voter-ID law.
“We’ll work with our attorney general. J.B. Van Hollen has made it clear that he’s prepared to appeal that decision,” Walker, a TIME 100 honoree, said during a brief interview at the TIME 100 gala in New York City. “We ultimately think that just like many other issues in the state the last several years that it will ultimately be upheld.”
A federal judge ruled on Tuesday that the law unfairly burdens poor and minority voters.
Also spotted at the gala: Walker, a potential 2016 presidential candidate, chatting for some time with possible rival Rand Paul, and industrialist and GOP megadonor David Koch in a long conversation with News Corp. media mogul Rupert Murdoch.
