Tanya Saracho no va a pretender que este sea un momento fácil para contar los tipos de historias que la han convertido en una de las voces más distintivas de la televisión. Productora, guionista y dramaturga, conocida principalmente por crear _Vida_, un aclamado drama de Starz que se transmitió de 2018 a 2020 sobre dos hermanas mexicoamericanas que regresan a su antiguo vecindario en Los Ángeles tras la muerte de su madre, Saracho está apasionadamente comprometida con la representación auténtica de personajes queer y latinos en particular. Más en la línea de _Vida_, que fue querida por su representación matizada y políticamente cargada pero frecuentemente placentera de un vecindario latino contemporáneo que enfrenta problemas como la gentrificación y las identidades interseccionales, está _Brujas_. Informado por su propia práctica de brujería e inspirado por el reciente movimiento de latinos “reclamando estos antiguos sistemas de creencias matriarcales” en plataformas como TikTok, el programa sigue a dos primas afro-latinas en Chicago que se introducen en la brujería durante el confinamiento por COVID-19\. “Es una especie de metáfora para el empoderamiento femenino,” dice Saracho.

Será probablemente más difícil llevar estos proyectos a buen término que hace cuatro años, cuando la pandemia había hecho que las familias se lanzaran a suscripciones de streaming y las protestas de George Floyd se manifestaran en las artes como un mandato para contar más historias negras y marrones. Pero Saracho está acostumbrada a crear espacio para sí misma.
