This $100 Grilled Cheese Better Be the Most Delicious, Life-Changing Sandwich On the Planet

2 minute read

Do you ever find it hard to justify spending more than a few bucks (or any bucks) on a grilled cheese sandwich because it’s something you could easily make at home? If so, you’d probably find it really tough to justify purchasing the limited edition, cheesy monstrosity known as the “Zillion Dollar Grilled Cheese.”

No, it doesn’t really cost a zillion dollars, but it does cost $100.

The culinary creation is available now at deca, a restaurant located inside Chicago’s Ritz Carlton hotel, just during the month of April (which happens to be National Grilled Cheese Month.) The restaurant has already sold around 10 or 12 of them, says general manager John Gurgone.

To be fair, it does sound totally delicious and is packed with decadent, pricey ingredients. Here’s what we’re talking, according to a press release:

  • Artisan country sourdough bread
  • 40-year aged Wisconsin cheddar infused with 24-carat gold flakes
  • Iberico ham (from free-roaming, acorn-eating pigs from southern Spain)
  • 100-year-old aged balsamic vinegar
  • white truffle aioli
  • foie gras
  • a sunny side up duck egg
  • Seriously, just look at this:

Oh, yeah, it’s also served with a skillet of lobster macaroni on the side. So if you’ve got $100 lying around and you’ve got plans to be in Chicago this month, please eat this and let us know how delicious it is.
