There has been much speculation about what led to former child star Amanda Bynes’ forced hospitalization last July, but her lawyer set the record straight on one rumor in an exclusive interview with People on Wednesday.
“For the record, Amanda does not have schizophrenia, nor has she ever been diagnosed with it,” said Tamar Arminak, Bynes’ lawyer. According to an anonymous relative quoted in the story, Bynes is “still working through the causes of her past bizarre behavior.”
Tabloids have been diagnosing Bynes with several mental disorders including schizophrenia and bipolar disorder for the pass several years while the actress publically struggled with law enforcement, acted unpredictably, and tweeted incoherently.
The 28-year-old was released from rehab in December and seems to be doing fine. She reportedly enrolled at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in California and recently tweeted pictures of herself vacationing with her parents in Los Cabos, Mexico.
And according to her lawyer, medication is not to thank for her post-rehab success.
“Amanda currently is on zero medication,” Arminak told People. “She’s devoted to living her life as healthy as possible. She’s never had a history of abusing alcohol or hard drugs, and she’s proud to say she’s been marijuana-free for the past nine months.”
