Despite Scalia’s frequently conservative views, he and Ginsberg shared a friendship based in part around a love of theater and opera. Answering a question about what made her hopeful given the events of recent years, [Ginsburg](http://time.com/5247283/ruth-bader-ginsburg-rbg/) said: “My dear spouse would say that the true symbol of the United States is not the bald eagle — it is the pendulum. And when it goes very far in one direction you can count on its swinging back.” Ginsburg also rejected the idea that term limits could be imposed on the Supreme Court. “You can’t set term limits, because to do that you’d have to amend the Constitution,” she said. “Article 3 says … we hold our offices during good behavior … And most judges are very well-behaved.” She also declared herself a “flaming feminist,” and spoke about the law facilitating progressive change. “The genius of the constitution is it has become more and more inclusive,” she said. “Now, ‘we the people’ embraces all the people.” ## Transcript And I wonder if you worry about backlash, as a result of the meting movement. And by that I mean, you know we've certainly read a lot of accounts of some women feeling as though they were no longer being invited on work trips, along with their male colleagues or to the dinners with their male colleagues because. There is a fear that it may be perceived the wrong way. Can you speak about any concern you have about backlash, and any advice you have for women that are dealing with it. I don't think that there will be a serious backlash it's too widespread. My concern is that it shouldn't stop with prominent people. People like you, people in the media, and that it should protect this new attitude to protect the maid who works at a hotel. And, I think, it is spreading so far. Yes, there will always be adjustments what it is in transition, but on the whole it's amazing to me. That for the first time, women are really listened to because sexual harassment had often been dismissed as well, she made it up or she's too thin- skinned.
