Gomez, a card-carrying [Taylor Swift](http://time.com/5049659/taylor-swift-interview-person-of-the-year-2017/) squad member who recently released the single _Wolves_, has been buds with the _Reputation_ singer [for more than ten years](http://time.com/4819995/taylor-swift-selena-gomez-video/). During a chat with U.K. radio station [Kiss FM](https://planetradio.co.uk/kiss/entertainment/music/watch-selena-gomez-talks-new-single-instagram-plus/), she got down to the “how we met” story: “We actually dated the Jonas Brothers. It was hysterical,” she said. The details could make for a great song. “She was the girl with the big curly hair and the bracelets and the cowboy boots. I was definitely up-and-coming, and we just clicked,” she said. So you just have to be exactly [01:38] who it is that you are and at least know that you've [01:41] been true to yourself. It's about attitude, aptitude, and [01:45] opportunity. Who knew I would be here? But [01:49] it all started with folks that thought I had a good [01:52] attitude. That put me in places that challenged [01:56] me and then provided me opportunities because I met [02:01] and exceeded the standard. You often realize, people [02:04] want you to succeed, and they often have very good [02:07] solutions, both practical and in terms of thinking of [02:10] opportunities for you. And the other thing is, I think it's [02:14] not too bad To have periods of great intensity doing [02:18] one thing or the other.
