Attorney General [Jeff Sessions](http://time.com/4877246/jeff-sessions-donald-trump-fox-news-interview/) said Tuesday that freedom of speech is under attack on college campuses in America.

During [a speech at Georgetown Law School](http://time.com/4957632/jeff-sessions-donald-trump-georgetown-law/), Sessions said political correctness has transformed academic spaces “into an echo chamber of political correctness and homogeneous thought.” He cited the cancelling of speaking events due to fear of protests as an example, referring to such incidents as a “heckler’s veto.”

“This is not right,” he said. “This is not in the great tradition of America. And, yet, school administrators bend to this behavior. In effect, they coddle it and encourage it.”

## Transcript

[00:00] Freedom of thought and speech on American campus
[00:03] are under attack. The American university was once
[00:06] the center of academic freedom. A place of robust
[00:10] debate. A forum for the competition Of our ideas. But
[00:14] it is transforming into an echo chamber of political
[00:17] correctness and homogeneous thought, a shelter for
[00:21] fragilegals. Well the president has free speech rights
[00:25] too. He sends He sent soldiers out
[00:29] every day to defend this country under the flag of
[00:33] United States, under the national anthem and the unity
[00:38] that those symbols call on us to adhere to. So
[00:43] I agree That is a big mistake to protest
[00:47] in that fashion because it weakens the committment
[00:51] we have to this nation that has provided us this
[00:55] freedom.
