James Comey in Washington, D.C., on May 8, 2017.Susan Walsh—AP  by [Alana Abramson](https://time.com/author/alana-abramson/)  ## Alana Abramson Jun 6, 2017 11:06 PM UTC A group supportive of [President Donald Trump’s](http://time.com/4804333/donald-trump-pittsburgh-not-paris-rally/) legislative agenda will air negative ad about former [FBI Director James Comey](http://time.com/4807777/donald-trump-speech-james-comey-testimony-overlap/) while former FBI Director testifies before Congress on Thursday The ad, according to [the Associated Press](https://apnews.com/97d2df602a664ae3a2b65b874a640baf), claims Comey “put politics over protecting America.” Echoing President Trump’s own comments that he made to NBC News anchor Lester Holt, the ad refers to Comey as a [a political “showboat.”](http://time.com/4776056/james-comey-fired-donald-trump-responds-rod-rosenstein/) [Great America Alliance, ](http://www.greatamericaalliance.com/)which was formed after the election as an outside group “to help realize President Trump’s promise to ‘Make America Great Again,'” paid for the ad, the AP reports.
