The tweets marked the President’s second Twitter statement on the travel ban in the wake of the [recent terrorist attack in London](http://time.com/4805060/london-bridge-attack-accomplices-police/). “People, the lawyers and the courts can call it whatever they want, but I am calling it what we need and what it is, a TRAVEL BAN!” Trump tweeted early Monday. Both Trump’s original executive order and the subsequent revised version were blocked by the courts in part due to [statements by the President and members of his administration](http://time.com/4703614/travel-ban-judges-donald-trump-words/), including comments that the goal was to stop Muslims from entering the country. Hawaii District Court [Judge Derrick Watson wrote](http://time.com/4703614/travel-ban-judges-donald-trump-words/) that statements “made in the months leading up to and contemporaneous with the signing of the Executive Order, and, in many cases, by the Executive himself, betray the Executive Order’s stated purpose.” The Justice Department has argued that the order is not discriminatory toward Muslims. On Monday, Trump also blamed the Justice Department for “watering down” the travel ban after the first version was blocked by a federal court. But we believe we are experiencing a new trend in the threat we face. as terrorism breeds terrorism. And perpetrators are inspired to attack, not only on the basis of carefully constructed plots after years of planning and training And not even as lone attackers radicalized online. But by copying one another and often using the crudest of means of attack. We cannot and must not pretend that things can continue as they are. We cannot allow this ideology, the safe space it needs to breed. Yet that is precisely what the internet and the big companies that provide internet based services provide. We need to work with allied democratic governments to reach International agreements that regulate cyberspace to prevent the spread of extremists and terrorism planning. And we need to do everything we can at home to reduce the risks of extremism online. While the recent attacks are not connected by common networks, they are connected in one important sense, they are bound together by the single evil ideology of Islamitic extremism. That preaches hatred, sows division and promotes sectarianism. It is an ideology that claims our Western values of freedom, democracy and human rights are incompatible with the religion of Islam. It is an ideology that is a perversion of Islam. and the perversion of the truth.
