Actors David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson [reinhabited their roles](http://time.com/4187261/review-the-x-files-revival/) as (veteran) FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully for a revival of the paranormal spine tingler in 2016, some 13 years after the pair’s [original 1993 outing](http://time.com/4189720/the-x-files-mulder-scully-evolution/). After the success of the revival, which drew an average audience of around 16 million viewers, the show is coming back for a second time, _Entertainment Weekly_ reports. “Iconic characters, rich storytelling, bold creators — these are the hallmarks of great TV shows,” Fox president David Madden told _EW_. “And they are some of the reasons why _The X-Files_ has had such a profound impact on millions of fans worldwide.” Fox and Scully’s return, with the show’s creator Chris Carter on board as executive director, prompted [celebratory tweets](https://twitter.com/GillianA/status/855220818820943877) from the longtime co-stars. I don't know why we are here, but hey guys. [ LAUGH ]. Well you single- handedly brought the show back with your podcast the the X- Files [ UNKNOWN ]. [ LAUGH ] Jesus Christ. All about [ UNKNOWN ]. I think you know more than Chris about the show, actually. I guarantee you he does. That's definitely true. that's definitely true. You're here for fact checking. [ LAUGH ]. Yeah, that's actually not how you said it, Skinner. [ LAUGH ]. Wrong, wrong, wrong. Gentlemen, the X- Files returns to television January the 24th. I could not be more excited, the people in that room could not be more excited. So Chris, tell me, bringing this show back, are these stories that you had always wanted to tell on the show, or are these stories that you had thought about and thought, oh, man, we gotta bring the X- Files back? No, they're brand new fresh stories. Nothing that was sitting on the shelf. Yeah. So this is all fresh. This is from relatively recent, and what level of convincing did it take the rest of these people to get back on board? No convincing at all. No convincing whatsoever [ CROSSTALK ]. Wanted to do it. [ LAUGH ] It's true, it's true. I'm hearing all these These things about who's convince who. But the truth is we've always kept in touch about doing more stories in whatever form was available to us. And then when cable came in, and even limited runs came onto network through the cable model, it became clear to us that if we weren't able to do the movies then we could tell The kind of story that Chris wanted to tell, it might even be better suited for these long short runs so. Long short runs. [ LAUGH ] It's kind of all I can do at this point of my life. [ LAUGH ] Just long short runs, the David Duchovny story. Just a short run. [ LAUGH ] David, coming back into this character, what is it that you feel like Resonates with the audience about Mulder? Why do people love him so much? Yeah, I don't. Cuz he's played by David Duchovny, that's the correct answer. Yeah, that's right, that's the correct answer. That's the kind of question that I am the worst person in the world to answer, because I'm not the guy who's looking outside looking in. I think he fails, and he never gives up. I think that people like his sense of wonder and his never giving up. I think they like his sense of humor. I think they love the relationship between Him and Scully, he's always been. I've always described him as the worst FBI agent in history. He has not put one person behind bars [ LAUGH ] in how many episodes and yet I think that's what loveable about him. Is that he continues to do his job the way he conceives of his job. Yeah, in spite of his complete incompetence. But he's always right. Yeah, but he's always right. But he's always right. Yeah, for me as a fan I would say what I really like about motor was always like it's the David and Goliath thing. Right? He's this little guy, everyone feels like an underdog and to me that's the most relatable story there is and it's. One guy going up against this massive conspiracy. And he thinks he can win. I mean, that's very optimistic. Just interview Kamel. I'll take this, Mitch. [ LAUGH ] I told you I was the worst guy to ask that question of. When you guys feel like. Obviously this is the right time now, as you mentioned, David, in the TV world to bring this show back. But I also feel like, that we're back at peak paranoia again. Like, it feels like, that people are ready to receive this show again. Do agree with that, Chris? Yeah, I think it; 's a good time to be telling X Files stories. Yeah, cuz people are really, it's terrifying out there. I've been out there, man. Yeah? It's no good. [ LAUGH ] [ LAUGH ] We need Mulder and Scully. And so you guys are about to unveil the US premiere of this episode. Kumail, have you seen this yet? Yeah, I've seen it. So- Who cares if he's seen it or not? I don't think he's seen it. And we haven't, I haven't seen it. You answered your question. I've seen it a bunch of times. Put that mic down. [ LAUGH ] It was- Oh, God. Ask Mitch. Ask Mitch. See? This is why I didn't wanna do it. Ask Mitch. Turn it off. Mitch, have you not seen, this'll be the first time you've seen it? I've never seen it. It's like, was it good? Yeah, I haven't seen it. They don't tell you, do they not tell you anything? Skinner's always in the dark. That's very character- driven. [ LAUGH ] Yeah. We discovered- Well- put. Mitch and I did a Q and A in Pittsburgh and through one of the questions we figured out that I never knew that Skinner had legs. [ LAUGHTER ] It's because I was always sitting at my desk everything was in my desk. So if there's anything new that is revealed in this iteration of the show. Joe, it's Molder now has seen Skinner- He's aware of Skinner's legs, he has lovely knees, lovely knees. So, but Kumal, as a fan how much- You can answer that one. How much fan service does this Does at least this first episode are people gonna be satisfied? I would love for David to answer this question for me? [ LAUGH ] They are gonna be satisfied yet left wanting more. Which is the best way to do it. It's exactly right, I mean, you know you guys are gonna see it very soon but it really is, as someone who's a fan, it's very exciting but it's also interesting because it's not just fan service, it's a really great story and when it ends you can't wait for the next one. None of us were interested in coming back just to Just to come back and wink and say hey, we used to do this and remember that, remember this. Chris wanted to tell new stories. Gillian and I are different actors than we were when we started. We're happy to bring that to bear on this. Should ask him how he enjoyed working on, he's in an episode. Ask him about that. Kumel plays, you play the hero that comes in and saves Moulder and Skully. Yeah, I mean, I sort of, I've been. I'm going to have sex with both of them. [ LAUGH ] No, it was almost everyone. One was very nice on set. [ LAUGH ] No, almost. There were moments? Yeah, I mean, you know. It was a dream come true. It was a dream I never even dared dream. These guys were so nice and welcoming. And you knew about the podcast so I think you maybe went out of your way to be like very, very extra nice. It was suck up. I mean so, it was absolutely amazing. I listened to one podcast and it irritated me. But it wasn't me that irritated you, it was Darren. Darren. Darren irritated me because he kept calling me Duchovny. Yeah, I thought that was. He [ CROSSTALK ] Is that, is that no good. I don't know, I was the only one that he called by the last name. It was like Jillian, Chris and Duchovny. Yeah, was like Jillian, Chris, Glenn, Mitch and Duchovny Like, it's Mr. Duchovny, right? Darren talked about me? [ LAUGH ] So exciting. So six episodes coming back in January. Is that the end?
