Michelle Williams Says Busy Philipps Is the Love of Her Life

3 minute read

Manchester by the Sea’s Michelle Williams is nominated for numerous Supporting Actress awards this season, and by her side through it all has been none other than her BFF, Busy Philipps.

“I’m here with my best friend,” Williams, 36, says as she sips a glass of champagne at a screening of her film held at the Crosby Street Hotel in New York on Sunday.

“I’m so in love with her,” she says, “She’s proof that the love of your life does not have to be a man! That’s the love of my life right there.”

The two have been close friends since they starred on Dawson’s Creek together in the early 2000s. Philipps, 37, even posted a hilarious 2001 throwback photo of the pair alongside a more grownup and glamorous shot of them at Sunday’s screening.

One of many girls’ nights out where the two (they deserve a name, #Willipps? #Buselle?) have supported one another — Williams took Philipps as her date to the 2016 Critics’ Choice Awards (where she was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for Manchester by the Sea) and the duo captured this glam-porta potty pic:

Philipps also attended a separate Manchester by the Sea screening and documented it on Instagram with a caption reading in part “went to support my sweet BFF Michelle at her new movie tonight.”

Williams is now nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress for a film that she “didn’t even expect would get made.”

The movie, which chronicles a man’s return to his hometown to care for his nephew following the passing of his brother, was a smaller scale film that has now received multiple nominations.

“It’s the most unlikely and unexpected of endings for something so small,” Williams says of the films reception. “You don’t make a movie like this because of any sort of clear benefit to your career or your finances – You do it because you can’t avoid doing the thing that you love.” She added, “As people, we should all be bound to the things that we love – other people, work, our families…and it’s nice when those things get an extra reward that reminds you, ‘Yea, it’s OK to keep doing your thing.’”

Regardless of how award season shakes out for Williams, one thing is certain – BFF Philipps will be there through it all.
