Jimmy Kimmel to Host 2017 Oscars

Jimmy Kimmel will host the 2017 Academy Awards in February, the Associated Press reports.

It’s the first time Kimmel will host the Oscars, although the Late Night With Jimmy Kimmel star has previously hosted several award shows, most notably the 2012 and 2016 Emmy Awards.

Chris Rock hosted the contentious Academy Awards last year, while Neil Patrick Harris hosted in 2015.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news on Monday morning, saying an announcement is expected from the show’s producers. Picking Kimmel as host works well for ABC, which airs the awards show and struck a deal with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in August to broadcast the Oscars until 2028.

ABC will broadcast the 89th Academy Awards live on Feb. 26, 2017. Michael De Luca and Jennifer Todd are slated to produce the show.
