John Oliver is done with 2016.
To mark the final episode of Last Week Tonight for the year, Oliver invited some friends to help bid farewell to what many people felt was subjectively an incredibly awful year.
Oliver considers the election of Donald Trump to the presidency this year “a giant calamity.” But besides that, he says, 2016 also saw Brexit, the continuing Syrian refugee crisis, the poisoning of the citizens of Flint, Michigan, a perceived rise in sexism, and the deaths of Harambe, Prince, David Bowie, Mohammed Ali, Gene Wilder, Alan Rickman and more.
The compounding tragedies were enough to make Amy Schumer, Larry David, Weird Al Yankovic, Nick Offerman, Megan Mullally, Billy Eichner, Jeffrey Tambor, Kathy Griffin and Larry Wilmore, whose The Nightly Show was cancelled in 2016, want to have a few words with 2016. Mostly four letter ones.
