How to Use Facebook’s New Halloween Masks

2 minute read

Facebook users can get into the spooky spirit starting on Thursday when the social media platform introduces two new features for Halloween.

Users will be able to “wear” a range of themed masks on the site’s live video streaming service Facebook Live, and the normal reaction options that usually include “like” and “love” will be swapped for Halloween-themed animated reactions, including a skeletal thumbs-up and a scowling pumpkin.

The Facebook Live masks will be available to iOS users in the U.S. and will include a pumpkin and a witch. A variety of other masks will continue to be available on Facebook Live after Halloween for users to jazz up their live videos. To access the masks while using Facebook Live, tap the magic wand at the upper left corner of the screen, and a menu will appear. If the masks are too spooky, the feature is easily removed by tapping the upper left corner of the screen again to close it.

The Halloween-themed reactions will be available to users in the U.S., U.K. and Canada in the days around Halloween on both Facebook’s mobile and desktop versions. As with the normal reactions, you can simply hold down the Like button on the mobile version or hover over it on desktop, and take your pick from the strangely supernatural options.
