The ‘Clown Lives Matter’ march scheduled for Saturday in Tucson, Az. has been cancelled after the event’s organizer said the event received death threats and online harassment.
The march was planned to counter the rise of clown terror amidst a wave of clown attacks across the nation (and lately, elsewhere around the world). But organizer Nikki Sinn wrote to Facebook that a group of people “bombarded” the event page with threatening language, leading to the cancellation. The Facebook page for the event has been deleted, according to Tucson News Now.
The peace walk was meant to show that clowns are “not psycho killers,” Sinn, 27, told TIME last week. Sinn is a caregiver who works part-time as a makeup artist, but who organized the event after hearing about clown harassment. The name “Clown Lives Matter” drew criticism, including from the chairman of the Arizona Black Lives Matter campaign, Rev. Reginald Walton, told the Arizona Republic that the name was “insensitive” to Black Lives Matter. Sinn said the name was not meant to be offensive.
