U.S. Senate candidate Loretta Sanchez just brought the dab from the dance floor (or victory dance) to the debate stage.
Sanchez ran over the allotted time for her closing statement in the California Senate debate on Wednesday, and she struck a dab-like pose after the moderator made her finish. Her opponent, Kamala Harris, widened her eyes in surprise, the Los Angeles Times reports.
“So, there’s a clear difference between the candidates in this race,” Harris said, before launching into her own statement.
“There definitely is,” Sanchez responded.
For those unfamiliar with the move: The dab involves leaning the face into one’s elbow, sometimes while straightening the other arm. The California Panthers are into it, and once Jason DeRulo taught James Corden how to pull it off in a club (watch here if you’d also like to learn).
A Harris spokesperson tweeted afterwards: “Her dab was as weak as the rest of her debate performance.” A Sanchez spokesperson offered another explanation: “And this is why Millennials are supporting Loretta Sanchez for U.S. Senate.”
