Late-night television has become “more pointed, more passionate and often more partisan than ever before” in its political satire, as TIME explores in this week’s cover story. As the 2016 election has drawn closer, hosts like Late Night’s Seth Meyers, Full Frontal’s Samantha Bee and Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver have made their anti-Donald Trump political views more and more apparent.

Meyers in particular has used his nightly show as a platform to air his grievances with Trump, consistently slamming the Republican nominee during his opening monologues and segments like “A Closer Look” and “That Actually Happened.”
