Game of Thrones has made the first major casting announcement for its upcoming seventh season, naming Jim Broadbent as the latest actor to join the fantasy drama. The show has yet to disclose who exactly the 67-year-old Oscar winner will be playing, but HBO has confirmed that he will have a “significant” role, according to Entertainment Weekly.
Unfortunately for fans looking for more hints about Broadbent’s identity — since Thrones has surpassed the plot of George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series on which it is based — it’s impossible to know if his character has even been introduced in the books yet.
Notable past credits for Broadbent include Moulin Rouge, Iris, Gangs of New York, the Bridget Jones series and a recurring role as Professor Horace Slughorn in the Harry Potter films.
