Florida Teen Says He Doesn’t Deal Marijuana, He Buys it in Bulk

A Florida teenager claimed he buys his personal weed stash in bulk after he and a friend were caught with four half-gallon jars full of marijuana while driving.

Roberto Garcia and Alexis Rodriguez, both 19, face charges of possession of more than 20 grams of marijuana, possession with an intent to sell, deliver and distribute marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and conspiracy to commit those crimes, the Miami Herald reported.

The two were pulled over on Sunday over when a Florida Highway Patrol officer noticed a broken brake light and missing letters on the license plate. After smelling marijuana, the officer called for backup and searched the vehicle. Along with the jars of marijuana, the officer found a grinder and several blunts in the ashtray.

Garcia, who was driving, told the officer he buys large quantities of marijuana because it’s cheaper. However, an in-car camera that picked up the teens’ conversation while they were sitting in the officer’s backseat indicated otherwise.

“The driver had tried to tell me that the marijuana was for his personal use and that it was cheaper for him to buy it in bulk every other month,” the trooper said, according to the Herald. “He stated he would buy $1,100 every other month, which is what the amount he had was — this in contradiction to what he and the passenger stated in my vehicle.”

Garcia and Rodriguez were booked and released from the Plantation Key jail on Sunday.
