The healthcare network Orlando Health and Florida Hospital will not charge any of the victims of the June 12 Pulse Nightclub shooting, they announced Wednesday.
“Orlando Health has not sent any hospital or medical bills directly to Pulse patients and we don’t intend to pursue reimbursement of medical costs from them,” said Orlando Health, which covers the hospital where many victims were treated, in a Wednesday statement. Florida Hospital treated 12 victims, and said it will not bill the patients or their insurance holders for treatment or any follow-up procedures, the Orlando Sentinel reports.
Orlando Regional Medical Center, part of Orlando Health, treated 44 victims wounded in the attack. The network will look into numerous ways to find funding for the care, including government funds, private insurance and donation-based victim funds such as One Orlando. The families of the nine victims who died after arriving to the hospital will not be charged.
The “total unreimbursed costs” for treating all the victims could around $5 million, officials have estimated.
