College Student Who Tried to Bite Man’s Face Off Told Cops: ‘You Won’t Find Any Drugs in Me’

2 minute read

The 19-year-old Florida college student who tried to bite a man’s face off after allegedly killing a married couple told authorities they wouldn’t find drugs in his system after the attack, a sheriff said Tuesday.

Austin Harrouff, who was taken to the hospital in critical condition after last week’s assault, made a “spontaneous statement” as he was being admitted into the hospital, Martin County Sheriff William Snyder said at a news conference.

“You won’t find any drugs in me,” the teenager allegedly told them, according to Snyder. It’s the only statement Harrouff made to police before he was heavily sedated.

Harrouff is accused of fatally stabbing John Stevens, 59, and Stevens’ 53-year-old wife Michelle Mishcon in their garage last Monday. Harrouff was found hovering over Stevens and trying to bite his face off, authorities said. The teenager also bit Stevens’ stomach before deputies intervened and subdued him, Snyder said Tuesday.

Harrouff may have consumed a “caustic and poisonous substance” that he found in the couple’s garage after the attacks, Snyder said. The sheriff said there were “symptoms and signs” that indicate the teenager ingested a chemical that “did some damage to him.”

Harrouff, who was fighting for his life last week, is now in critical but stable condition. He is still sedated and has not yet spoken again to police.
