Watch the Muppets Play Their First Ever Cover-Filled Live Concert

2 minute read

The Muppets’ Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem got their first big break this weekend, playing a five-song set at the Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park.

The band, which features drummer Animal, Zoot, Floyd Pepper, Janice and Dr. Teeth, had been waiting for a chance to play at a music festival for more than three decades, since they first started playing together in the 1970s. They delivered a 25-minute set that will go down in the history books (for Muppets, at least).

The Muppet’s house band hit the stage with an original song—“Can You Picture That?” from the 1979 The Muppet Movie—before launching into a string of cover songs. While they didn’t cover Prince or O.D.B.’s “Shimmy Shimmy Ya” again, they did offer their own twist on The Beatles’ “With A Little Help From My Friends” complete with a gospel choir, “Home” by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, The Band’s “Ophelia” and in a blatant attempt to curry favor with the local crowd, The Mowgli’s “San Francisco.”
