Bradley Cooper spoke out about angering American Sniper fans with his attendance at last week’s Democratic National Convention.
Cooper, who received an Oscar nomination for playing Navy SEAL Chris Kyle in American Sniper, told James Corden on The Late Late Show Tuesday that he attended the convention with his mother to see President Barack Obama speak, and was surprised by the angry reaction.
“I was not expecting that,” Cooper said. “Republicans were up in arms that I was there watching the president speak.”
Fellow guest Todd Phillips, who directed Cooper in the Hangover trilogy, said Republicans getting upset with Cooper is “like the mob being mad at De Niro for being in the The Intern,” drawing giant laughs from both Corden and Cooper.
Cooper said attending the convention to see Obama speak was “unbelievable.”
“To be there, it was probably one of the last times we’ll hear him speak,” Cooper said. “I think he was an incredible president. I was really excited.”
