Last night, Hillary Clinton became the first woman to be nominated for president by a major party. She accepted the duty in a powerful speech, in which she said, “When any barrier falls in America, it clears the way for everyone. When there are no ceilings, the sky’s the limit.”
Throughout the convention, both men and women praised Clinton for shattering the glass ceiling and paving the way for young women and girls around the country to see a woman potentially become president. Michelle Obama said in her convention speech, “And because of Hillary Clinton, my daughters and all our sons and daughters now take for granted that a woman can be president of the United States.” President Obama called her a “a leader with real plans to break down barriers, blast through glass ceilings, and widen the circle of opportunity to every single American.”
As Hillary Clinton accepted her nomination, people captured poignant images of young children watching the historic moment. Mothers commented on how thrilled they were for their daughters to witness the occasion, while others, whose mothers had passed away, remarked that it was a moment they would have loved.
