People Are Actually Mad at Ashley Graham For Looking Thin On Instagram

2 minute read

Ashley Graham isn’t going to be left out of the conversation about her body.

The 28-year-old, who made history earlier this year with Sports Illustrated‘s swimsuit issue as its first size-16 cover model, was subjected to critiques from her social media fans after posting a new Instagram photo on Wednesday.

In the image, Graham, wearing a white top and skirt with a leather jacket, appears thinner.

Commenters were quick on the draw: “What happened to embracing your size? You advertise that message then go and lose weight?? I mean hey more power to you, but idk…puzzled.”

Added another, “Why are you changing yourself? I thought you were comfortable being yourself and being plus size? You are clearly losing tons of weight.”

In response, Graham took to the comment section, writing, “People come on my page and body shame me because I’m too big, because I’m too small, because I’m not good enough for their standards…”

“But at the end of the day I’m good enough for me,” Graham charged. “Angles will make anyone look bigger or smaller and I just happen to know mine.”

Graham has dealt with body scrutiny before, telling PEOPLE earlier this year that she “had agencies telling me that I had to lose weight” when she first started in the industry.

“I started to really hate myself,” she told PEOPLE. “I would literally just look in the mirror, and I would be disgusted. It was a constant degrading of my body. You’re fat. You’re ugly. You’re worthless. I’m surprised you’re a model. Are some of the things I would say to myself.”

Now, years later, Graham has adopted a better attitude. Even with “jiggly arms,” Graham said self affirmations have lead to a happier mind and soul.
