Now, the 19-year-old actress has revealed that the first person to share the news with her is exactly who she plans on bringing as her date to the September awards show. “I found out in the best way,” she told [_People_](http://www.people.com/article/game-thrones-maisie-williams-emmy-nomination-mom-date)during a recent interview. “I was away from \[my mom\] last week, and I speak to her every day — so I FaceTimed her…and a little notification from Twitter came up — a tweet from _Game of Thrones_…I was just so happy and couldn’t quite believe it really — I still can’t believe it. And it was amazing to share that moment with my mom. She was crying.” Williams went on to say that she attributes her success to her mother. “She gave me the gift and gave me her blessing to do what I want with my life,” she said. “To be like, ‘Okay…you’re going to do this and we’re going to prove them all wrong,’ rather than, you know, making me stay in school. And I’m still educated, I’ve still got everything I need in life. I was FaceTiming my mum, I was away from her last week, and I speak to her every day. And I was on FaceTime to her and I was in Berlin and a little notification from Twitter came up. I found out through social media. [ MUSIC ] A little notification from Twitter came up, a Tweet from Game of Thrones and it said congratulate @ m. Like at Maisie Williams, and I was like what does congratulate me on And I didn't wanna say anything cuz mom was talking at the time and I was kinda trying to speed up the conversation, so it was like a click off and go and look at what this tweet was. And then I forget that I've logged into my Twitter on her phone as well cuz she loved keep up with everything that's going on, so she, I don't know, ten seconds later, got a ding on her phone and she was like Ooh, hang on a minute. And I knew exactly what she was looking at. And I was like, I just saw it too. And I immediately clicked off FaceTime and went onto Twitter and I saw, I congratulate Maisie Williams on her Emmy nomination. [ LAUGH ] I was just silent for about 30 seconds and my mum was like, are you still there? Maisie, my gosh. Are you still there? And And then just started screaming and I was just so happy and couldn't quite believe it really. I still can't believe it. Yeah, and it was amazing to share that moment with my mom and she was crying and then we got calls from my agents and from A publicist for Game of Thrones. And yeah, everyone got in touch and it was just a very special moment and I'm so happy I shared it with my mum. My mother, she's so caring and so lovely. But knowing her history and her past, she Hasn't been dealt the best hand in life and there's been a lot of things that have gone very against her. She, has survived many, many times. Survived relationships, survived breast cancer, and Constantly just trying to do more to help other people. And she also gave me the gift, and gave me her blessing almost to do what I want with my life. And it doesn't sound like much, but so many of my friends have been like, I'm not allowed to go off and do that because I need to get a plan b. My parents want me to get a plan b and I understand that but we spend so much time trying to think about, figure out our plan b that we never really fully pursue our plan a. For my mum's turnaround at 15 years old and getting really kinda snidey message from my school being like, your daughter's never in school so we can't educate her and she's making us look bad so can she leave. To take that and be like okay, we're gonna leave and you're gonna do this and we're gonna prove them all wrong rather than You know making me stay in school and I'm still educated. I've still got everything I need in life. I thank her every single day. When I find out I got an Emmy, I got her a bottle of gin cuz it's for her. Like she's done this for me and I'm just grateful every single day for my mom. Yes obviously yeah.
