Charlie Puth Dedicates Emotional ‘See You Again’ Performance to Christina Grimmie

2 minute read

Charlie Puth joined a growing list of celebrities who’ve publicly paid tribute to Christina Grimmie by dedicating an emotional performance to the late Voice star during his Saturday show in New York.

“I was reading the news last night and heard that my good friend Christina Grimmie was killed, and I want to dedicate this song to her tonight,” Puth said. “I’ve been upset about this all day, mainly because I just never got to say what I wanted to say to her, and I feel like this song perfectly captures that.”

The 24-year-old then launched into a stripped-down performance of “See You Again,” a track he recorded with Wiz Khalifa in tribute to actor Paul Walker for the Furious 7 soundtrack. The audience joined in as Puth reached the chorus of the song, which reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2015.

The star later paid his respects to Grimmie on Twitter. “When you die, your body dies, but your soul lives on forever, as will hers,” he wrote. “Rest In Peace Christina Grimmie. A beautiful talent… At the end of the day, we laugh, we cry, we dance, and we sing together.”

Several other artists have performed in honor of Grimmie, who wasshot and killed by a fan Friday night as she signed autographs after a concert in Orlando, Florida. Selena Gomez broke down onstage during a tearful homage on Saturday, while Keshadedicated her set at Pittsburgh Pride “to the family, and to the friends, and to the fans of” the 22-year-old.
