Warning: This post contains spoilers for both the Game of Thrones TV show and George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series.
While the “resurrection” of the Hound was one of the most talked-about moments from Sunday’s installment of Game of Thrones, the episode also saw another highly-anticipated return. As Ian McShane’s Brother Ray finished regaling his followers with the story of how he became of man of God, three members of the Brotherhood Without Banners — a group who had not been seen since season three — rode into the camp.
After asking a few questions and giving a menacing warning, the men promptly left. However, when Ray’s entire community — with the exception of the Hound — was later murdered offscreen, it seemed clear who had committed the heinous crime.
Now, Jóhannes Haukur — the actor who played the riders’ leader — has confirmed on Twitter that not only will he be back this week, but that his character is none other than Lem Lemoncloak, one of the Brotherhood’s most savage members in George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series.
While some may find Lem’s debut exciting on its own, the real story lies in what his appearance could be foreshadowing. As book readers know, one of the defining aspects of Lem’s character is that he remains in the Brotherhood after it is taken over by Lady Stoneheart — the zombified version of Catelynn Stark who is bent on seeking revenge on anyone associated with those who betrayed her family.
And considering the fact that Haukur tweeted a link to an article teasing Stoneheart’s introduction, fans may finally be about to see some long-awaited Red Wedding vengeance.
“No One,” the eighth episode of Game of Thrones‘ sixth season airs Sunday at 9 p.m. EST on HBO.
