The “Purple Rain” singer [died in his home ](http://time.com/4319278/prince-death-estate-vault/ "undefined")in April from an [accidental overdose of the opioid fentanyl](http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2016/images/06/02/prince.toxicology.pdf "undefined"). Prince’s love for Minnesota and for his hometown, Minneapolis, [were well known in the state. ](http://time.com/4314125/prince-minneapolis-hometown/ "undefined") Minnesota Gov.
