The basketball skills of music icon Prince first became popular lore back in 2004, when Dave Chappelle aired a sketch on his Comedy Central series Chappelle’s Show parodying a pickup game in which the Purple One supposedly proved himself to be a legendary ball player. But during Thursday’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Magic Johnson revealed the pop star wasn’t as good as he thought he was.
“He talked so much trash—he thought he had a real jump shot,” Johnson said, smiling. “I had to remember it was Prince that I was playing against, so I had to back off. But he really thought he could play basketball.”

The 56-year-old former NBA point guard went on to tell a delightful story about the time Prince hosted a late-night pajama party at Magic Johnson Theatres.
