The rumor mill went into overdrive last year when it was reported that Burton had asked _Dark Shadows_ screenwriter Seth Grahame-Smith to [pen a sequel](http://time.com/3663957/the-beetlejuice-sequel-michael-keaton/?iid=sr-link2) to the dark comedy. The whispers seemed to be confirmed when star [Winona Ryder said](http://time.com/3992359/winona-ryder-beetlejuice-sequel/?iid=sr-link1) a sequel was happening. But those rumors may have been premature.
